Black and White Wedding Photography

My formal training to degree level at West Surrey College of Art and Design equiped me with an in depth understanding of light and how to interpret it's many facets through the medium of photography.

Wedding photography in particular, and the subject matter presented to my camera within that enviromment offer fantastic scope to create great black and white photographs for my clients. It is definately my choice of presentation; black and white images rely solely on the 'marriage' of emotional, tonal and subject content of the photograph, resulting in far more telling and 'truthful' photography.

Many wedding photographers take for granted in this age of digital technology the fact that any image can be displayed as black and white, sepia and a number of other visual effects available at the click of a computer button. During the initial edit I will earmark those images (relying on experience and expertise) which I know will stand the test of time as a monochrome photograph. I will then revisit these and spend as much time as necessary making adjustments to fine tune the tone and contrast detailing within each image.

If you would like me to photograph your wedding solely in Black and White, please don't hesitate to ask so that we can discuss my approach on your wedding day. If you are happy for me to make artistic judgement on your final set of images, optimising some for black and white, some for colour and some for sepia, this will be done as a matter of course for all weddings.

I also prepare three or four images from your final set as 'composite' eg; the majority of the photo will be in black and white, with certain detailing and accent left as colour. Please remember that not all images are appropriate for this type of wedding image manipulation, and I will use my discretion as to which images present themselves as the right ones to use.
